Sugar-free & Sin-free Sweets

Last Wednesday (19 June), I had the pleasure of interviewing Sugalight’s founder, Dr. Elgin Tan, at their Rail Mall outlet. Despite the fact that Rail Mall is slightly inaccessible (I got lost), the homely ice cream parlor was just what I needed to seek shelter from the haze and heat.

Dr. Tan spoke to me about himself and the history of the shop. Did you know he started the business for his ice cream loving diabetic father? What a sweet and filial son!

Sugalight sells guilt-free ice cream that is low in fat, sugar-free and contains prebiotics. It’s pretty unbelievable that it’s sugar-free and egg-free as the ice cream is so smooth and creamy!

I tried a couple of flavors at the shop, including Banana Chocolate, Strawberry, French Dark Chocolate and even bought a tub of Caramel ice cream home. I could barely tell that it was sugar-free as it contained the natural sweeteners such as Xylitol, Stevia leaf extract and Maltitol. Sugalight also sells flavors catered to the local palette such as Pulot Hitam and Durian.

What made me fall in love with it was how low calorie it was. He told me that a serving of ice cream actually contains around 100 calories, perfect for anyone on any diet, especially mine. ;)

Dr. Tan was so welcoming and amiable that it was such a pleasure to interview him.
